Strategy[ ]
Tanya's passive is unique, since she is the only character in the game that disables the opponent's equipment. This effect is done when Tanya performs a successful special attack. One can notice that the passive has been successful if there is a sound and a visual effect of something being broken on the enemy. The passive can happen an unlimited amount of times per battle, so performing three specials against a fully-equipped Gold character and four specials against a fully equipped Diamond character will break all equipment pieces it has. This particular advantage isn't useful on challenges or battle mode (because no characters wear equipment), but it can be useful in Faction Wars and game modes such as Lin Kuei Tower and Black Dragon Tower where kards come equipped.

Please note that battles are highly situational: this section only mentions cards that have mechanics that, for any reason, are particularly effective with/against, or particularly ineffective against Tanya. Having a card that "counters" Tanya does not mean it is always a good choice.
Good With[ ]
- Mileena/Klassic: Because Tanya is female, she can benefit well with healing when Mileena knocks out opponents when they are on the same team. Plus, Tanya can break equipment and help Mileena finish the characters off.
- Scorpion/Ninjutsu, Kotal Kahn/Sun God, Sub-Zero/Cryomancer & Reptile/Nimble: Tanya gains 30% Attack from Scorpion and Kotal Kahn as well as 30% Health from Sub-Zero and Reptile.
- Kung Jin/Shaolin, Scorpion/Hellspawn, Kitana/Mournful, Ermac/Master of Souls, Wrath Hammer & Bloody Tomahawk: Most of these supports will give Tanya bars of power. Because she is an Outworld character, Tanya will also help Ermac start with X-Ray if she is also teamed up with Kitana.
Good Against[ ]
- Tower Bosses: Tanya, being weak or strong, can break that equipment on SP, rendering characters a lot weaker.
- Faction Wars: Generally this is the only game mode except event towers where fighters come with equipment pieces. Tanya can break them to turn the battle into her favor.
- Power Drainers: Tanya reduces the effects of Power Drain to herself and her teammates.
- Jade/Assassin: If Tanya uses Special 2, even if Jade evades, Jade cannot cripple her as Tanya moves so far back at the end of her Special Attack. Tanya can also break Jade鈥檚 Signature Equipment and render Jade even less of a threat.

- Jason Voorhees/Nightmare: He can evade Tanya's special attacks. Thankfully, Jason鈥檚 equipment can still be broken even if he evades Tanya鈥檚 Specials.
- Kitana/Ronin, Kenshi/Ronin, Cassie Cage/Undercover, Combat Shotgun & Katana Equipment: These characters and equipment pieces deal more damage against Martial Artist and Outworld characters including Tanya.
- Jacqui Briggs/Kosplay (Reptile, Rain & Sub-Zero): Rain Jacqui gains 50% basic damage and Sub-Zero Jacqui gains 50% critical damage against Outworld and Reptile Jacqui gains a constant Poison Aura against Martial Artist characters. Tanya is both of these classes.
- Liu Kang/Klassic, Bo' Rai Cho/Dragon Breath, Erron Black/Black Dragon, Triborg/Smoke (LK-7T2), Quan Chi/Warlock, Cassie Cage/Covert Ops and other characters who can Cripple: These characters can stop Tanya from breaking their equipment by crippling her. However, Tanya can also cripple these same characters back if she has her X-Ray.
- Kenshi/Elder God, Kitana/Assassin & Scorpion/Hellspawn: Despite Tanya鈥榮 potential to break their equipment, because Luck is applied to Tanya on her Special 1, these characters are immune to her critical attacks, with Kenshi spreading this immunity to Elder God teammates.
