1990 BMW 525i

This 1990 BMW 525i was purchased new from Peninsula BMW in Seaside, California, and has remained registered in the state through its two-year ownership by the seller. Power comes from a 2.5-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, and modifications include staggered 18″ Bayern Multi wheels and Eibach lowering springs. A transmission service has been performed under current ownership along with replacement of the timing and accessory belts, drive belt tensioner, ignition components, oil pan gasket, filters, fluids, battery, and tires. This E34 shows 63k miles and is offered with factory literature, stock wheels and springs, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s wife.

The exterior is finished in Sterling Silver Metallic (244) with black rub strips, rocker panels, and valances. The seller notes a dent in the right front fender, nicks in the front doors, and scrapes on the black front bumper molding. Paint meter photos shown in the gallery below indicate higher readings on the hood, while scratches have been corrected on the top of a front fender and the passenger-side mirror according to the seller. Painted 18″ Beyern Multi wheels with polished lips were installed by the seller and measure 18″x8.5″ up front and 18″x9.5″ at the rear. All are mounted with Pirelli P Zero tires reportedly fitted in 2018. Eibach springs were fitted in 2018 and are said to lower the car by 1.2″ at the front and 1″ at rear. An intermittent steering shimmy is observed at certain speeds.

The interior is trimmed in silver bison leather (2092) with matching carpets and floor mats, gray plastics, and black accents. Amenities include power-adjustable front seats, a factory stereo, a power sunroof, cruise control, and a steering wheel airbag. The front seatbelts are slow to retract, the headliner is sagging, and the door panel trim shows its age.

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and a digital odometer showing just under 63k miles. Approximately 2k miles have been added by the seller.

The early E34 525i shared its 2.5-liter M20B25 inline-six with the outgoing 3-series of the period and was factory rated at 168 horsepower with 164 lb-ft of torque. The timing belt, drive belt tensioner, distributor cap and rotor, spark plugs, oil pan gasket, accessory belts, air filter, and brake fluid were replaced in November 2017 at 60k miles. A factory recall for the cruise control and throttle was performed in May 2019, while a new Bosch battery was installed in August 2019. A cold start video has been provided by the seller.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed ZF 4HP22 automatic transmission. The transmission fluid, pan gasket, and filter in were changed in November 2017.

The September 2019 Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage in California from December 1992 to May 2019.
